洞窟物語 cave story
this was one of my first video games that i did not play on a nintendo console. :D although now it has been ported to the nintendo switch, cave story started out as an indie game by daisuke "pixel" amaya. it is a metroidvania where you play as a robot who wakes up in a cave on this island, with amnesia. it is still one of my favorite games to this day. there has even been a 3d remake on the 3ds. aside from the steam port, there is also a freeware version on the official cave story website. I WAS ALSO VERY SURPIRSED TO FIND OUT THERE IS A PORT ON ROBLOX TOO??? somebody took the entire game and put it in roblox so you can play it there as an experience haha its so awesome. there is never a day i do not think about this game
ピクニック pikuniku
this is a game that me and a close friend really really like. it is cute, whimsical and great for all audiences. you run around as the main character piku as he goes on a fun adventure. there is also a coop version where you can play as piku and another character called niku!! i would really like to play this game with my friend for their birthday on sunday, so i guess that is why i am thinking about it today!! i love my friend and i love pikuniku :D
*update: we did play. it was fun.
细胞神曲 cell of empireo
this game is an STUNNING work that i have created NOTES for because of how in depth and interesting the plot is. this game doesnt have an official playable english translation, so i am watching instead on youtube. genuinely, i could go on for hours (and already have) about this game. it is such an intricate beautiful work in how it explores darker concepts in such a charming way. i really REALLY like the sprite animations and artwork for this game, as well as the writing and just. everything. it is so awesome. it is currently one of my main motivators for learning japanese, because i want to be able to actually play the game some day, as well as the dlcs :D
